There are always multiple issues that determine the reasons that voters choose their preferred candidate. Here are a couple of considerations.
If Labor, with the support of the Greens, control both houses of Parliament the legislation that would tax the unrealised gains on superannuation members with over $3m (unindexed) will be passed. The government has been steadfast in refusing to budge on any aspect of this measure. It previously passed through the House of Representatives but never made it to a vote in the Senate due to opposition from the LNP and most of the independents. This doesn’t mean it’s dead, just sleeping.
The FAAA have proposed several important initiatives for candidates to address. Chief among these is adviser access to specific MyGov client data, necessary changes to the Compensation Scheme of Last Resort and simplified fee consent forms. They have developed an excellent election hub which indicates the position for each candidate in each electorate.
Essentially the LNP have agreed to every initiative, the Greens have rejected them all and the Labor party has remained uncommitted.
